The Broadway League announced this week that all productions on The Great White Way will remain closed until at least 3rd January 2021.
Whilst not unexpected, the news is still a huge blow to theatre fans. The League stated in May that, while shows would not reopen before 6th September 2020, this date was arbitrary to allow producers to offer refunds and exchanges while waiting for curtains to rise again.
Details concerning the return dates for shows and ticketing announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
Broadway musicals were first impacted by restrictions to mass gatherings imposed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on 12th March.
League President, Charlotte St. Martin, said “We are determined to bring back the people who rely on this industry for their livelihood, and to welcome back all those who love this vital part of New York City, as soon as it is safe to do so…We’ll be back, and we have so many more stories to tell.”
