Producers and Theatre owners have expressed their devastation at the news that a second national lockdown will begin at one minute past midnight this Thursday 5th November, lasting for four weeks.
Several shows had scheduled reopenings in the coming month, including hit musicals Six and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. Other shows including the Les Misérables Staged Concert and the London Palladium‘s Pantoland also now face an uncertain future.
The National Theatre and London Coliseum also affected.
The whole theatre industry, including representatives from The Stage Newspaper and Society of London Theatre awaits clarification from Oliver Dowden and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to see whether rehearsals may also be affected.
For now, the Furlough scheme has been extended, but yet again freelancers, who make up such a large part of those working in the Theatre sector face an uncertain financial future.
