Is the stage show faithful to the movie?
The stage show is based on the 2001 movie, keeping the plot close to the original film. However, the stage musical score is updated with a huge catalogue of new pop anthems. That said, the songs you loved from the film are still there, and the updates improve rather than trample on the much loved movie soundtrack.
What is Moulin Rouge! The musical about?
Set in the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret club, the show begins with rehearsals underway for a new show. Christian, a lovestruck poet is writing a show celebrating the Bohemian ideals of truth, beauty, freedom and love. He falls deeply in love with the show’s star, Satine “The sparkling diamond”. Unfortunately, Satine, a courtesan, is also coveted by the show’s financial backer, The Duke of Monroth. Despite Satine’s aloof nature, Christian and Satine soon begin a passionate affair. They try to keep secret from The Duke, but eventually the truth is revealed. Fearful that the Duke will have Christian killed, Satine rejects him. Will love triumph in the end? Well, you’ll have to see the show to find out…
