The much anticipated Spielberg remake of classic musical West Side Story has finally been unveiled. The trailer was premiered during this week’s Oscar ceremony. The annual Los Angeles celebration of the film industry, which this year took place in Union Station, LA, saw winners from the world of Theatre crowned, including Sir Anthony Hopkins for The Father (Actor in a leading role). Nominees also included Hamilton’s Leslie Odom Jr, nominated for One Night in Miami (Actor in a supporting role) and Sunset Boulevard’s Glenn Close for Hillbilly Elegy (Actress in a supporting role).

The West Side Story movie cast is led by Ansel Elgort as Tony, Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, and Josh Andrés Rivera as Chino. Broadway legends Brian d’Arcy James and Corey Stoll join them in the roles of Sergeant Krupke and Lieutenant Schrank.
Stephen Spielberg’s West Side Story has a lot to live up to. The original movie won a total of 10 Oscars at the 34th Academy Awards in 1962. It remains the musical film with the most Academy wins, including Best Picture.
